Alexander Street, between Lawrence Drive in Princeton and Canal Pointe Boulevard in West Windsor, will close for about six months beginning on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, for road construction.
Construction won't prohibit traveling to campus, but it will make it more time consuming. Traffic congestion from all routes to campus during peak times (weekdays, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) will be higher than normal. Drivers traveling to campus along Route 1 will see the greatest delays.
The official detour route will follow Faculty Road to Washington Road to Route 1:
All our facilities will operate under normal schedules during construction, including:
- The Art Museum & Museum Store
- Art @ Bainbridge
- Lewis Center for the Arts
- Admission tours
- Athletic events
- Public events
- McCarter Theater
Drivers: Plan extra travel time to reach locations around campus.
Parking & Transit
Travel time to visitor parking in Lot 23 (near West Garage) may increase since it is accessed in part via Alexander Street, which will be closed nearby. Visitors parking there or in Lot 21 (near Jadwin Gym) and wishing to take a Tiger Transit bus around campus may experience longer wait times between buses.
New Jersey Transit trains (the Dinky) will be unaffected.
How to Beat the Traffic
Trains will be unaffected by the construction. If you drive to campus, use your favorite traffic app to navigate around congestion.
